Last month, we at Knight Edge Media first heard that director Jon Watts was tapped to direct the upcoming Simon Kinberg film Star Wars: Episode X. At the time, we were also exclusively told Watts was working on a secret, untitled Star Wars series for Disney+. This series wasn’t Skeleton Crew season 2, as many might expect, since he co-showran that.

The series had a full writers’ room hired in January and ran through August of this year. The series was going to be 8 episodes long. Skeleton Crew co-creator Christopher Ford (Spider-Man: Homecoming) and Watts were developing it as a “western” series, much like how Skeleton Crew was a swashbuckling pirate adventure set in the Star Wars universe. It’s unclear whether the series was put on the back burner while he works on Episode X and will be picked up later, or if it’s been quietly canceled.
Lucasfilm couldn’t comment on the story.
