Back in 2011, directors Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson began collaborating on the CGI-hybrid film The Adventures of Tintin, based on the 1930s comic strip. The original plan was for Spielberg to direct the first film while Jackson produced, and then they would switch on the second film. However, the second film was never made due to Jackson’s commitment to directing The Hobbit trilogy after Guillermo del Toro left the project. Now, 15 years later, Jackson reveals during a special dinner presentation honoring his career that he is hard at work writing the sequel. He also expects to direct the film after not directing a new feature film since The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies. Andy Serkis is expected to return as Captain Archibald Haddock, though it’s unknown if Jamie Bell will return as Tintin.
