Today, during the Paramount Pictures panel at CinemaCon 2026 in Las Vegas, the studio announced that a World War Z sequel was back in development. The studio has been trying to make a sequel to the 2013 global zombie franchise for over a decade, only to hit multiple roadblocks. Brad Pitt was set to return alongside new director David Fincher, who would take over from original director Marc Foster. It’s unknown if Fincher will return for this new version of the film after working with Pitt on The Adventures of Cliff Booth for Netflix. Though some have suggested director Dan Trachtenberg could direct after inking a first-look overall deal with Paramount (via Deadline). Hopefully, the sequel is more aligned with the original novel, given that the first film served more as a prequel than as a focus on the aftermath of civilization.
World War Z 2 has no set release date
