Today, a new report announced that British actor John Hannah will return as Jonathan Carnahan in The Mummy sequel. Hannah is best known for appearing in the Spartacus TV Series, and most recently, The Last of Us on HBO. He returns as the goofy older brother and is often seen as the money-obsessed comic relief from the original films. He joins returning actors Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz as Rick O’Connell and his sister Evelyn. Directing duo Radio Silence (Scream 5, Ready or Not) is set to direct the film with a script by David Coggeshall (Orphan: First Kill). The 2008 film The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor will no longer be considered canon, as this film will be a direct sequel to The Mummy Returns (2001). Production begins later this year.

The Mummy sequel will hit theaters on May 19th, 2028
