Today, we at Knight Edge Media have exclusively learned that five actors have auditioned for the coveted role of Professor Charles Xavier in the upcoming X-Men reboot for Marvel Studios. Christopher Abbott (Wolf Man), Bill Skarsgård (IT, The Crow), Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw), Tom Pelphrey (Iron Fist, Task), and Will Poulter (The Bear, Guardians of the Galaxy 3). Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring) was never considered, as they looked at younger actors. DanielRPK stated that Bill Skarsgård and Tom Pelphrey are already out on Xavier (via Patreon). Ironically, Abbott also appeared in the HBO series Girls alongside Adam Driver (The Rise of Skywalker), who is rumored to be playing the main villain. Which would be an interesting connection if both land the X-Men gig and Driver is Magneto, though he is most likely Mr. Sinister.
Many fans were hoping that James McAvoy, along with Michael Fassbender, might return for the roles but as completely new variant versions after appearing in the X-Men: First Class films. However, it looks like that was never the case, and they are going with the classic American version of Xavier rather than the British one from the previous 20th Century Fox films. Sir Patrick Stewart is set to reprise the role of an older Charles Xavier one last time in Avengers: Doomsday later this year from an alternate Earth. Once a deal is finalized for the role, they will join Kit Connor as Scott Summers, Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, and Samara Weaving as Emma Frost. Production begins next year in the UK.
