Today, Walt Disney Studios held its main presentation during D23’s Disney Entertainment Showcase in Anaheim, California. During the presentation, several of the company’s top studios showcased upcoming projects, including Pixar, Lucasfilm, and Marvel Studios.
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige has been a massive X-Men fan all his life, even when he began his Hollywood career as an associate producer on the first film in 2000. He was hilariously known for sneaking X-Men comics on set for the actors to read against the wishes of director Bryan Singer (via Collider). Now, he runs all of Marvel Studios, and while we are expected to get those same X-Men in Avengers: Doomsday in their own send-off, the studio is also hard at work developing their own X-Men reboot. This time it will be set firmly in the Marvel Cinematic Universe without the need for the multiverse. This time, we have already been introduced to several mutants in the MCU, including Ms. Marvel and Namor. However, it wasn’t until Spider-Man: Brand New Day that we learned that the popular mutant, Jean Grey (played by Sadie Sink), is finally part of this universe.
During today’s D23 presentation, Feige announced the full cast for his X-Men reboot, which included the return of Sadie Sink (Stranger Things) as Jean Grey. He also announced Kit Connor (Heartstopper) as Cyclops, stage actor Maya Boyd as Storm, Samara Weaving (Ready or Not) as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette (Obsession) as Rogue, and Christopher Abbott (Wolf Man) as Professor Charles Xavier. Finally, after years of trying to get him to sign on to a Marvel Studios film, it was announced that Adam Driver (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker) will star as the villain Mr. Sinister.
It’s unknown if fan-favorite mutants Gambit, Iceman, Angel, Jubilee, Kitty Pryde, or Nightcrawler will appear in this film. Wolverine and Magneto are not expected to appear in this film in any capacity, though they may appear in the sequels. Production is expected to begin sometime in early 2027 in the UK.
