Today, a report announced that Marvel Television has officially canceled Wonder Man season 2, despite an early-season renewal. The series was renewed back in March after a critically praised first season. However, the new report reveals that a writers’ room for season 2 was never formed in the last 5 months, and the original writers have been released from their contracts to pursue other projects. The second season was going to feature more of Wonder Man and the D.O.D.C in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While speaking to The Direct in May, showrunner Andrew Guest stated,
“One of the things that happened as we were getting towards filming the end of filming on the finale, Yahya, one day turned to me and he’s like, ‘So, Simon can’t act anymore.’ And I was like, ‘What are you talking about?’ He’s like, ‘Well, the DODC knows that he’s got superpowers.’ So I was like, ‘Yeah, so the DODC knows it. But maybe they don’t want to let everyone else know it. Maybe there’s a deal to be worked out between Simon and the DODC, where there’s a little trade-off going on.’ We could figure it. We can square this circle, given the opportunity”
It’s unknown if actor-turned-superhero Simon Williams (played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) will ever crossover to the main MCU, given the story was pretty self-contained. The series currently has a 91% score on Rotten Tomatoes after debuting this past January.
