Earlier this week, actress Amy Poehler had Tom Holland on her podcast Good Hang with Amy Poehler. The podcast featured Tom Holland discussing his recent marriage to actress Zendaya, his work on Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey, and his return as Peter Parker in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. During the interview, Holland reveals that while shooting Brand New Day, he and Zendaya were shooting a dramatic scene together but couldn’t quite find the right emotional connection between Peter Parker and MJ. The two then spoke with director Destin Daniel Cretton, who agreed and sent the crew home for the day. Holland then name-drops a new screenwriter named “Justin”, who worked with Cretton overnight to rework the scene and filmed it perfectly the next day. It has been revealed that screenwriter Justin Kuritzkes was the writer brought on for Spider-Man: Brand New Day. He took over writing from the original writers, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers (Homecoming, Far From Home, No Way Home). Kuritzkes is best known for writing the romantic tennis film Challengers, starring Zendaya. It’s unknown if he will return for any future Spider-Man films, as this is expected to kick off a new trilogy.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day hits theaters on July 31st
