Today, a new report announced that director Ridley Scott has boarded a remake of the classic pirate novel Treasure Island. The film is set to be written by Jack Throne, writer of Adolescence and Netflix’s Lord of the Flies. Hugh Jackman is currently slated to star in the film as the pirate Long John Silver. Ironically, Jackman starred in 2015’s Pan as the pirate Blackbeard before the infamous character Captain Hook took over. Starz’s pirate series Black Sails was loosely based on Treasure Island, but was a much more adult take on the story. Scott, alongside Michael Pruss, is expected to produce the film. No studio has picked up the film as 20th Century Studios already passed due to Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
