Today, a report announced that actor Matt Smith has joined the cast of Star Wars: Starfighter. He is set to play the main villain opposite co-stars Ryan Gosling and Mia Goth. It’s unknown what character Smith will be playing. Ironically, Smith was once eyed to star as a villain in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker before the character was cut completely (via IGN). Smith is best known for appearing in Doctor Who, Morbius, and, most recently, House of the Dragon. Shawn Levy has been tapped by Lucasfilm to direct the film with a screenplay by frequent collaborator Jonathan Tropper. Production begins later this fall.

Star Wars: Starfighter will fly into theaters on May 28th, 2027
