Today, a report announced that Marvel Studios’ upcoming X-Men reboot has a working title. Working titles are typically codewords that a studio uses throughout production to keep the casting and possible filming locations a secret. Sometimes, Marvel Studios’ working titles hint at what the plot will be about. Fantastic Four had a working title long before the film was officially announced. The upcoming mutant film will have its production under the title Chunnel. The Chunnel appeared in New X-Men #129-130, featuring the introduction of Fantomex:
“In this storyline, Fantomex seeks sanctuary at the X-Corporation in Paris, having stolen information about the Weapons X project while in the Chunnel. He asks the X-Men for help destroying Weapon XII, which is located within the tunnel and is ultimately uncovered to be Weapon XIII, who has escaped similarly to Wolverine.”
It’s unknown how this storyline could play a part in the upcoming film. However, given that 20th Century Fox has already done a multitude of popular X-Men storylines over the last 20 years, the Marvel Studios version may be more obscure. Michael Lesslie is currently attached to pen the script, but no director has signed it yet. Jake Schreier recently met with the studio to helm the project after his time on the Thunderbolts. Nobody has been cast in the film either.
