Today, a Darth Maul animated series was announced during the Lucasfilm animation panel at Star Wars Celebration 25 in Tokyo, Japan. The project has long been rumored over at Cinelinx but has never been confirmed. In 2021, they had gotten word that Maul would appear in an upcoming animated series, assuming it was in the “Tales of” spin-off show. However, it turns out it will be an exclusive show following Darth Maul after the events of Solo: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Rebels, with his takeover of the criminal underworld.

It’s unknown if Qi’ra (played by Emilia Clarke) will appear after the character was first introduced in the Han Solo movie, working for Maul. The announcement also revealed that longtime Darth Maul voice actor Sam Witwer will return for the upcoming series. It will also be titled Maul: Shadow Lord and reveal that Maul trained a secret Twi’lek apprentice. Dave Filoni and Athena Portillo will return to produce the animated series.

Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord will hit Disney+ sometime in 2026
