Today, writer Matt Owens announced on social media that he is stepping down as co-showrunner on Netflix’s One Piece live-action TV Series. He co-wrote the first season alongside writer Steven Maeda, who also exited following the release of season one in 2023. Joe Tracz joined the team as co-showrunner alongside Owens in 2024 and will now take over going forward. We at Knight Edge Media had heard several troubling rumors behind the scenes between Owen’s and Netflix. They wanted to skip several important arcs and wrap up the show, but Owens pushed to include them in season 2. The result was still a cut in episodes for season 2 and potentially season 3, but Owens ultimately got to cover the arcs he wanted from the manga. Production ended on season 2 in late 2024 back in South Africa.

One Piece season 2 has no set release date on Netflix
