Today, a report confirmed a rumor that director Robert Eggers will helm a sequel to the 1980s fantasy cult classic Labyrinth. Jim Henson directed the original film, and his family’s estate will produce this sequel. This will be the first time Eggers will delve into a franchise instead of writing an original film. A previous incarnation of a sequel was developed by director Scott Derrickson.
He will again re-team with co-writer Sjón after their work on The Northman and his other upcoming film, Werwulf. The original was a children’s fantasy film starring David Bowie as The Goblin King and Jennifer Connelly as the teenage hero Sarah Williams. It’s unknown which film he will tackle first, Werwulf or Labyrinth 2. Sony Pictures will produce the film under their subsidiary Tristate Pictures.
Labyrinth 2 has no set release date
