Today, Universal Pictures announced the next secret film in development from director Christoper Nolan, which he will tackle is the classic Greek poem The Odyssey. The classic Homer story has been adapted into many movies and TV shows throughout the last century. It follows the Greek hero Odysseus on his voyage home to Ithica following the Trojan War. Throughout the 10-year journey, he runs into Greek monsters like Medusa, Sirens, and the Cyclops. Ironically, Nolan also discussed directing Troy in 2004 before turning it down to begin working on Batman Begins (via Vanity Fair). That film was an adaption of the poem the Illiad by Homer.

The film has been casting for several months and will feature an ensemble cast that includes Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong’o. Production begins next summer exclusively on IMAX between Holland’s Marvel commitments.

The Odyssey hits theaters on July 17th, 2026
