In late 2022, star Jason Momoa had a private meeting with DC Studios head James Gunn after his future in the new DC Universe. After appearing in two Aquaman films as Authur Curry, the actor didn’t specify what character he would be taking on next. However, he took to social media to tease it, which is something he is extremely excited about. Most know that Momoa has long wanted to play the interglacial bounty hunter Lobo on screen but was cast as Aquaman by Zack Snyder in 2014. So, it is safe to assume he spoke to Gunn about how Lobo might fit into this newly rebooted universe. While speaking to Fandango (via ScreenRant) during the Aquaman 2 press tours:

“So, Lobo… I used to collect comics and I don’t do so much anymore, but he was always my favorite. And I’ve always wanted to play Lobo because I’m like, ‘Hello?.’ It’s pretty perfect. It’s the perfect role. I mean, listen, if they call me and ask me to play it? It’s a f*** yeah. But, I mean, that’s a guarantee. So, you don’t have to worry about that. But, I haven’t received that call. So, I don’t want to put any fake news out there but if they ever call me and ask me to play, or ask me to audition, I’m there.”

A new rumor has been reported that a character that will appear in the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow movie is seeking Jason Momoa for the role. While not given specifics, the role is reported to sound a lot like Lobo. While still only a rumor, it makes sense that casting is underway as production on Supergirl starring Milly Alcock is expected to begin later this fall.

Many don’t know Lobo was already supposed to appear in the original 2021 comic by Tom King, but the writer was told to remove him (via Comicbook.com). “That book [Supergirl: WoT]  began as me pitching a Lobo/Supergirl book, and it was my editor[s], Brittany Holzherr and Jamie Rich, who were like ‘No, take Lobo out and make Supergirl the Rooster Cogburn character. And so it wouldn’t exist without Jamie and Brittany.” Screenwriter Ana Nogueira may be using King’s original idea for the movie adaptation, as King is now a brain trust in this new DC Universe under James Gunn.

Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow is slated to hit theaters on June 26th, 2026
