Today, a report has gone out that screenwriter Joe Tracz has joined the creative team on One Piece season 2. He joins Matt Owens as co-showrunner after original co-showrunner Steven Maeda left the project following the first season. He is best known for writing episodes of A Series of Unfortunate Events for Netflix and Percy Jackson & The Olympians for Disney. He has been a part of the project for several months but has now officially commented on the show:

I’ve been lucky to work on big adaptations of several beloved series, and they don’t come bigger or more beloved than ‘One Piece. I’m a huge fan of Oda-san’s incredible imagination and I was blown away by what the live-action team created in Season One. So it’s a dream and a joy to come aboard the Going Merry as it enters the Grand Line for an even more giant Season Two.”

Production is expected to begin sometime this June in South Africa. Whats-on-Netflix has also revealed that production will last about seven months, much like the first season. However, the final episode count is still unknown but is rumored to be more than the original eight episodes. The project is also going to be filmed under the working title Project Renaissance.

One Piece season 2 will return to stream exclusively on Netflix
