During today’s Paramount Pictures CinemaCon presentation, Avatar Studios announced more information on their upcoming animated movie featuring Avatar Aang, which is currently titled Aang: The Last Airbender (though that could change). The presentation also reiterated that this is the first film out of three (all going to focus on different Avatars). The first image (below) was shown to exhibitors during last year’s presentation. We at Knight Edge Media have revealed that the characters will be recast to reflect the real-world ethnicities they are based on. In December, we also learned that indigenous actress Jessica Matten would voice Katara and replace Mae Witman from the original series.

The official cast includes Eric Nam (Transplant, Saturday Night Live Korea) will voice Aang; Jessica Matten (Dark Winds) will voice Katara; Román Zaragoza (Ghosts) will voice Sokka; and Dionne Quan (The Fairly OddParents, All Grown Up) will voice Toph. Dave Bautista (Guardians of the Galaxy) has also joined the cast as the main villain. This is ironic considering many fans had fancast him as Combustion Man in the Netflix live-action series. The voice actor for Zuko was not mentioned anywhere but is still expected to be played by Dante Basco. Lauren Montgomery is set to direct the animated film. Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino will produce each film under their new Avatar Studios production banner.

Aang: The Last Airbender is set to hit theaters on October 10th, 2025
