Today, Above the Line revealed that brothers Donald & Stephen Glover have been hired to pen the upcoming Lando Calrissian series for Disney+ prior to the WGA writer’s strike. The series was originally announced during Disney’s Investor Day in 2020 but has since been put on hold due to Donald Glover’s extensive film and musical schedule. Both brothers initially collaborated on the acclaimed FX series Atlanta.
While speaking to GQ, Glover mentioned returning to his Solo character: “I would love to play Lando again. It’s a fun time, being him. It just has to be the right way to do it. Time is precious. The past couple of years, this pandemic shit, it had people experience time… People realize their time is valuable. You only get so much. I’m not interested in doing anything that’s going to be a waste of my time or just a paycheck. I’d much rather spend time with people that I enjoy. It just has to be the right thing, and I think it could be. Lando is definitely somebody I like to hang out with,” Originally, The Haunted Mansion director Justin Simien was hired to pen the series but exited the project last summer. It’s unknown when the series will hit production, as everything is on hold due to the WGA writer’s strike.
