Today, we at Knight Edge Media can exclusively announce that newcomer actor Sebastian Amoruso was cast as Jet earlier this year during production on Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series. The actor doesn’t have many acting credits but did star as Johnny in last year’s I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot series for Amazon Prime. We at Knight Edge Media revealed in December that ant-hero bad boy Jet would be making an appearance in the live-action series based on a casting call breakdown. Sebastian Amourse is of half-Italian and half-Chinese descent which matches the breakdown. It’s unknown how old he is at this time, but he looks to be in his mid-20’s which means they will probably remove the “crush” storyline with Katara, played by 15-year-old actress Kiawentiio. He recently followed the entire cast on Instagram and was followed back by star Elizabeth Yu along with the entire stunt team on the series.
In the original series, Jet and his Freedom Fighters are a group of non-bending Earth Kingdom orphans stealing from the Fire Nation to feed Earth Kingdom refugees. Though Sokka eventually learns that Jet is not honorable in his actions when he plans to sacrifice an Earth Kingdom town in order to drown an entire Fire Nation encampment. Sokka always distrusts Jet even though Aang and Katara are infatuated with his bad-boy charm. His character design was based on Spike from the Cowboy Bebop anime. At the same time, his character is based on Rufio and The Lost Boys from the 1994 film Hook. Which also ironically was played by Zuko voice actor Dante Basco. He also uses two hook swords as his weapon of choice against benders. Production ended in mid-June though minor reshoots will continue through the end of September in Vancouver.
Avatar: The Last Airbender will stream only on Netflix
