Over the last week, star Ian Ousley (Sokka) and actress Amber Midthunder began following each other on Instagram, which led many fans to speculate online that Midthunder had been cast in the upcoming live-action Netflix adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Midthunder is best known for roles in Marvel’s Legion and The CW’s Roswell, NM. She will also star in this year’s Predator reboot, Prey, debuting on Hulu. She is 25 and of Lakota/Sioux Indgenious American descent, living in New Mexico. In late April, Midthunder even revealed on The JAMCast Podcast (below) that she had a secret project she would be filming in Vancouver for 6-weeks before taking a break. That time frame also lined up with the series’ final two episodes filmed from May through June.

Now our friends over at Avatar News have confirmed that Amber Midthunder has indeed joined the cast of Avatar: The Last Airbender. She will star as Sokka’s first love-interest, Princess Yue of the Northern Water Tribe. In the original series, the Moon Spirit gives Yue life at birth turning her hair snow white. However, during the siege of the North, the Moon Spirit is murdered by Admiral Zhao. Yue sacrifices her lifeforce back into the Moon Spirit and becomes the Moon Spirit herself. She also develops feelings for Sokka even though she was betrothed to a Nothern Water Tribe warrior, Hahn. Production on the series ends this week in Vancouver.

Avatar: The Last Airbender will stream exclusively on Netflix
