Netflix’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender is filming in Vancouver, Canada, from November 17th, 2021, until May 14th, 2022. The production (like many in the area) took a hiatus for the Christmas season. However, due to the surge of the Omicron variant, every production hiatus in Vancouver was extended from early January until later in the month. When production picked up around January 19th, filming was technically a bit behind schedule.

A new casting call has gone out from Freeman Casting looking for Indigenous actors of all ages for the series as background actors. The call has a filming date stating that filming will end on June 14th, 2022. Casting director Poping Aueung also posted a casting call for June on their official Instagram account. It looks as if the production will end a month after it’s the original date to make up for the missing two weeks in January. The roles are most likely for background actors to make up the Nothern Water Tribe during the massive finale. It is unknown if the extended filming schedule will push back the streaming services’ projected release date.
