Sony Pictures Courting Director Fede Alvarez For a ‘Zorro’ Reboot

Today, our friends over at The Illuminerdi revealed that Sony Pictures is hard at work on a reboot for their classic Zorro franchise. The character was made famous in the early 2000s by actor Antonio Banderas but has been around since his creation in the 1919 comics. The report states that the studio is looking to court Don’t Breathe and Evil Dead director Fede Alvarez to helm the project.

A futuristic take of the character was in development for a while before being put on the backburner. The studio was also looking to create a crossover film based on the Zorro/Django Unchained comic with director Quinetion Tarintino in 2014 but that also never got far. A fan-favorite for the role would be The Mandalorian himself, Pedro Pascal. However, it’s unknown with his schedule for The Last of Us and Mandalorian season 3 if he would even have time.

Zorro has no set release date
