Amazon Studios Developing a ‘Blade Runner 2099’ TV Series with Ridley Scott

Today, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Amazon Studios had begun early development on a Blade Runner 2049 sequel series. Original Blade Runner director Ridley Scott will board the project as an executive producer. The project will be titled Blade Runner 2099 and serve as a sequel to both the original film and the 2017 sequel. Many consider 2017’s Blade Runner 2049 a cyberpunk masterpiece from Dune director Denis Villeneuve. However, the film never made much of a splash at the box office.

Netflix was looking to develop a Cyberpunk 2077 live-action series based on the video game. However, due to the lackluster launch of the video game in 2020, the series stalled in development hell. With the release of Blade Runner 2099, it seems redundant also to see Cyberpunk 2077. Netflix also had another cyberpunk-type series in Altered Carbon that was canceled after two seasons.
