Today, a new, detailed plot description for Lionsgate’s upcoming Naruto live-action movie has leaked online. This film is expected to be a “faithful adaptation” of the Naruto arc The Land of Waves, as many fans had hoped. We at Knight Edge Media have learned this movie is expected to be a hard PG-13, with plenty of swearing and Marvel-esque humor from writer/director Destin Daniel Cretton. A major change is that the Uzumaki clan is known for having “special blood” that can become a Jinchuriki specifically in the Leaf Village. We also know that other villages have Jinchuriki based on the original manga.
:: Spoilers Ahead ::
The first movie is an adaptation of the first arc, and they’re even considering calling it Naruto: Mission to the Land of Waves.
The characters are 12–13 years old, just like in the original.
It’s very faithful to the source material but It’s not 100% accurate, of course, and there are some changes.
Sakura is a much stronger character and already has her powers.
Naruto is also a bit of a ninja history nerd
He’s NOT in love with Sakura, but Sasuke IS.Sakura comes from a wealthy family. Her father died during Kurama’s attack, and her mother is a rich snob.
The big difference, at least for now (we’ll see if they change it), is that being a Jinchuriki is something determined by bloodline. In other words, only certain people can have a beast sealed inside them.
They’re introducing this concept to explain why they had to seal the fox inside Naruto when he was just a baby. He inherited his mother’s special bloodline, and since she was dying, the only way to stop the fox was to seal it inside someone. Naruto was the only one they could use because of his special bloodline.
The film is expected to set up a trilogy, with the second film supposedly rumored to cover the Chunin Exams, Sasuke’s infamous rescue, and the Hidden Sand Village. The final film will focus on Orochimaru, as he will make a cameo at the end of the second film to kill the Third Hokage. It will also follow the search for Lady Tsunade. Whether Lionsgate ever greenlights a full trilogy remains to be seen. Production begins in early 2027 in the United Kingdom.
