Today, a new report announced that Legendary Entertainment has submitted formal offers to acquire Lionsgate. The two studios have long partnered on a variety of films and have spoken of a merger off and on since 2025. Legendary is owned by the private equity firm Apollo Global Management. Lionsgate is best known for its John Wick and Hunger Games franchises. It also produced its first billion-dollar biopic film, Michael. Legendary is best known for bringing Godzilla, King Kong, and Dune to the big screen. It’s currently unknown how big the offer to acquire Lionsgate is.
