Today, a new trademark was registered by Viacom International for a new Avatar Studios property titled Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos. While trademark registrations could mean almost anything from video games to novels to clothing, it was registered under Class 41. Classification 41 specifies “Entertainment Services, namely, the provision of continuing in multimedia programs featuring animation delivered by television, satellite, the internet and computer networks.” So it’s very possible this is something animated-related.
We at Knight Edge Media have already revealed in 2025 that a secret Water Tribe animated series was in development under the working title Red Thunder. However, the casting calls used codenames for all the characters (i.e “Baroo”). So it was hard to determine if it was a new Avatar series or based on a previously established Avatar like Kuruk. We were told the series takes place during an Ice Age; however, we don’t know if it’s the same Ice Age from the on-hold AAA video game, which is 7,000 years before Aang’s time. While Avatar Kuruk lived only a few hundred years before Aang. It should be noted that the logline for Red Thunder did read,
“A rebellious teenager bucks thousands of years of tradition to go on globetrotting adventures, staying one step ahead of his angry teacher, rowdy pirates, and chaotic gremlins–all while helping the world in his own unique ways.”
It’s possible they took the AAA game premise since it’s no longer technically canon and simply gave it to Kuruk, but we really don’t know. We’ll have to wait and see whether this trademark is the same as the secret Red Thunder series. This is mostly speculation, trying to connect the two until it is officially announced. The trademark was first found by Phrasemaker.
