Over the last month, actress Cailee Spaeny had been heavily linked to the Marvel Studios X-Men reboot. Spaeny is best known for her roles in Alien: Romulus, Civil War, and Priscilla. Word was that she met with the studio for the lead role of Rogue and was considered the frontrunner. However, as D23 drew closer, the two parties couldn’t reach an agreement after weeks of back-and-forth negotiations, and talks fell through. As we all saw at D23, Kevin Feige announced the main cast for the X-Men reboot, including Inde Naverettte (Obsession) as Rogue. Many thought this might be the end of Spaeny appearing in the X-Men film after losing out on the role, but that might not be the case.
We at Knight Edge Media have heard exclusively that Cailee Spaeny is still speaking with Marvel Studios about appearing as a smaller character, with the potential for an expanded role in future films. While her exact role is currently unknown, many fans have already begun fancasting her as Kitty Pryde. Spaeny will be 30 by the time the film arrives in theaters, yet still looks extremely young for her age. The studio could make Kitty Pryde a contemporary of young Jean Grey (played by Sadie Sink) and Scott Summers (played by Kit Conner), rather than the typical teenage student we see in the comics. At the time of writing, she has not officially signed on for this role while they work out her schedule, and it could still fall through as the previous one did. Production begins next year in the UK.
X-Men is currently slated to release on May 5th, 2028
