Recently, a report revealed that actor Colman Domingo and screenwriter Robert O’Hara will co-write a Princess and the Frog live-action movie. The report states that it will not be a direct remake like Disney’s ill-fated attempt at Moana earlier this summer, but a spin-off focusing on Princess Tiana. A Disney+ series was canceled back in 2025 that was based on the same premise (via The Hollywood Reporter). The original 2009 aniamted film was set in New Orleans during the 1920s and based on E.D. Baker’s The Frog Princess; the pic follows a waitress, Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), who dreams of opening her own restaurant. She’s set on turning a frog prince, Naveen, back into a human after he’s cursed by an evil voodoo witch doctor, Facilier. However, Tiana becomes a frog as well, and the couple must find a way to become human again. Disney’s best live-action films have always been the spin-offs, such as Mufasa or Cruella, instead of a remake. No deal has been finalized, and no casting has been announced.
