Today, WB officially announced that Anya Taylor-Joy has joined the cast of The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum as an original character, Seren. She was first rumored back earlier this year for a role in the film, and many assumed it could be as Arwen opposite the reintroduction of Strider (played by Jamie Dornan). However, this brand-new character is described as a Sindar elf from Mirkwood and will be a “trusted but lethal agent of King Thranduil”. If this new character sounds familiar, it is because the original character Taruiel (originally played by Evangeline Lily) was also a highly skilled archer from the Woodland realm in The Hobbit films. Though, due to studio notes and the dismay of many fans, was forced to have a love triangle with Legolas and Killi in the final film of the trilogy. Taruiel will not appear in this film, as Lily revealed earlier this year that she was not asked to return. Production begins next month in New Zealand.

The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum hits theaters on December 17th, 2027
