Today, during Warner Brothers panel at CinemaCon 2026, the full cast for The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum was announced. While some names were already confirmed, others are brand-new and have never been rumored before. The main recast of Aragorn will be played by Jamie Dornan (Fifty Shades of Grey). We at Knight Edge Media were the first to reveal in December 2025 that Viggo Mortentson would not be returning, despite the studio’s best efforts to de-age him for the role. The rest of the cast includes Andy Serkis returning as Gollum, Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins, and Lee Pace as King Thranduil. Leo Woodall (Nuremberg) was previously rumored for the role of Aragorn but is actually playing a brand-new character named Halvard, another Dúnedain ranger. Finally, Kate Winslet (Titanic) is officially confirmed as Marigol, the grandmother of Sméagol. Production is set to begin next month in New Zealand.
