Today, a report announced that actress Sonya Walger has joined the ensemble cast of Prime Video’s live-action God of War TV series. Walger is best known for her roles on LOST and, more recently, on For All Mankind. She is set to play the goddess Freya from the original game. Her character description reads:

Freya, a critical character in the God of War franchise, is a Vanir goddess and princess who practices powerful, ancient magic. She is also Odin’s ex-wife and the former Queen of the Valkyries in Asgard, a title bestowed upon her on her marriage day. She is strong, insightful, and filled with regrets. When Freya’s unhappy marriage to Odin ended with her being exiled, she was cut off from her family, as well as her native land, Vanaheim. Freya has lived alone in Midgard for a century, a recluse in a hidden glade, feared by humans, and often referred to as the Witch of the Woods.

She joins Ryan Hurst as Kratos and Callum Vinson as Atreus. As well as Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ed Skrein as Baldur, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, Teresa Palmer as Sif, Alastair Duncan as Mimir, Jeff Gulka as Sindri, Danny Woodburn as Brok, Louis Cunningham as Modi, Ben Chapple as Magni, Evelyn Miller as Gna, and Island Austin as Thrud. Production is currently underway in Vancouver.

God of War will debut on Prime Video sometime in late 2027
