‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping’ Confirms Jesse Plemons as Plutarch Heavensbee

Today, Lionsgate announced that actor Jesse Plemons has joined the cast of The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. He is set to play a young Plutarch Heavensbee in the upcoming prequel. The late Philip Seymour Hoffman originally played the role in the original films. Ironically, Plemons played Hoffman’s son in 2012’s The Master.

Plemons was rumored earlier this month for the role before passing on Star Wars for The Hunger Games (via Superhero Hype). He joins Joseph Zada as Haymitch Abernathy, Whitney Peak as Lenore Dove, and McKenna Grace as Maysilee Donner, all from District 12. Production begins this July in Germany.

The Hunger Games: Sunrise On The Reaping hits theaters on November 20th, 2026
