Today, Lucasfilm held its annual Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo, Japan. Many were in attendance for their live-action panel, including Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and CCO Dave Filoni. The two Star Wars producers first brought out director Shawn Levy to announce his long-rumored Star Wars film. Levy is best known for directing Free Guy, Stranger Things, and last year’s Deadpool & Wolverine. Next, the trio officially announced that Ryan Gosling will star in the film as they brought the Barbie and Fall Guy actor on stage for the crowd. The movie, also officially titled Star Wars: Starfighter, will begin production this Fall.
DanielRPK revealed on his Patreon earlier in the day that the plot revolves around Gosling, a former Jedi following the events of The Rise of Skywalker, training his nephew as his Padawan. His sister will have a significant role in the film, but nobody has been cast. Oscar winner Mikey Madison (Anora, Scream 5) recently passed on the role (via Variety). Last summer, screenwriter Jonathan Tropper revealed that he was penning the script. Lucasfilm still has other theatrical films in development, including James Mangold’s Jedi origin film, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s Rey spin-off movie, Taika Waititi’s movie, and Simon Kinberg’s trilogy.
Star Wars: Starfighter will hit theaters on May 28th, 2027
