Recently, Sony Pictures announced that the studio was working on yet another Resident Evil reboot. This will differ from the canceled Resident Evil series debuting on Netflix or the previously rebooted movie Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City. Both attempted reboots are separate from the Mila Jocavich films of the early 2000s.
Barbarian director Zach Cregger will direct this brand-new film, which will adapt the original video games. The film is expected to be more horror than action-related and will be written by screenwriter Shay Hatten (Ballerina, John Wick: Chapter 3 & Chapter 4). The studio has also announced that the film will be released in fall 2026. Production begins later this year.
Zach Cregger’s untitled Resident Evil movie will hit theaters on September 18th, 2026
