Today, a report announced that Hasbro will no longer be putting money down on popular movie IPs to which they currently hold the rights. This news comes after a string of flops at the theaters, including this year’s Transformers One animated movie, despite its praise from fans and critics. Hasbro currently holds the rights to IPs like Transformers, Power Rangers, G.I. Joe, and the Micronaughts.

The toy company hasn’t seen much returns since the Michael Bay Transformers films of the early 2010s. They also saw Power Rangers flop in 2017 despite the film getting praise from fans and critics. In the future, any external studio, like their frequent partner Paramount Pictures, must fully finance any future film via a licensing agreement. Netflix has a licensing agreement with Power Rangers but has yet to exercise that deal in a future movie. The only film in the pipeline now is the Transformers/G.I.Joe live-action crossover film following the events of 2021’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Transformers One is out on 4K and Blu-Ray today
