Today, a report has announced that screenwriter Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) has exited working on the upcoming Star Wars sequel focusing on Rey. The movie was expected to be a semi-sequel to Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, with Master Rey (played again by Daisy Ridley) taking on students to form the new Jedi order.
Production would begin in late 2024 or early 2025 but has since been pushed back. Knight took over for original writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, who also exited early. The studio is now looking for another writer to take over the project, though Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy is still attached to direct the film. Lucasfilm has been secretly filming the Mandalorian spin-off film since September. James Mangold’s Dawn of the Jedi origin film is rumored to begin production in early 2025 (via DanielRPK Patreon).
