Netflix’s ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ Season 2 Production Returns To Vancouver This Fall Without Using The Volume

Today, we at Knight Edge Media have learned that production on season 2 of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender will return to Vancouver from October 7th through March 21st, 2025. The series got a double-season renewal and will film season 3 shortly after season 2 back-to-back. They will conduct the production of season 2 under the working title Diner Bear. This comes from the recent news that casting is underway for fan-favorite earthbender Toph. The studio opted for an open worldwide search for the actor, encouraging blind/low-vision actors to audition. The open casting call mentioned a scheduled fall shoot. Other major season 2 roles like Long Feng, The Earth King, Guru Pathik, and even possibly Avatar Yangchen have yet to be announced.

We at Knight Edge Media also previously mentioned that the streaming service is moving away from filming on The Volume and going with more traditional practical sets in and around Vancouver. Pixomondo’s version of The Volume became very costly and only hurt post-production instead of helping the process of season 1. Adding an additional 6 months to post-production that inflated the budget dramatically. Fans also complained about The Volume during season 1, as it seemed many actors could not move freely due to its space limitations (see the Fire Nation scenes) even though the built Volume set is the biggest in the world (via TV Technology). Many fans also praised the outdoor practical sets used during episode 2 on Kyoshi Island. The new season will be showrun by Christine Boylan (Cloak & Dagger, The Punisher) with help from supervising director Jabbar Raisani (Lost in Space) as they take over duties from original showrunner Albert Kim (Nikita, Percy Jackson). Producer Brendan Ferguson (The Edge Of Seventeen, Luthor: The Fallen Sun) has joined the team as an executive producer.
