Several months ago, Disney announced they would not move forward with their Spiderwick Chronicles reboot series. This comes after the series was already completed filming and deep in post-production. The cancelation was due to the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes in order to save money. The report mentioned the studio would try to sell the project to another streaming service. Many assumed it would go to Paramount+ as the original film was produced by the studio.
Today, Deadline announced that Roku picked up the series for their streaming app. “It is an honor to bring The Spiderwick Chronicles, a spectacular adventure-filled story led by the incredible Christian Slater and Joy Bryant, exclusively to The Roku Channel,” said Brian Tannenbaum, Head of Originals, Roku Media. The series stars Joy Bryant, Noah Cottrell, Lyon Daniels, Mychala Lee, Jack Dylan Grazer, Momona Tamada and Christian Slater.
