Netflix dropped its newest anime adaption, One Piece, onto the streaming platform to a slew of praise from fans & critics alike. Now, Variety spoke with Marty Adelstein, CEO of Tomorrow Studios, about the future of the show. The CEO has revealed that scripts have already been written for a hopeful (but still un-greenlight) season 2:
“We’ve got scripts ready. Realistically, hopefully, a year away, if we move very quickly, and that is a possibility. Somewhere between a year and 18 months, we could be ready for air.”
While Netflix has yet to officially greenlight the second season, this is a good indication the production company is confident in the response to the show. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing WGA and SAG strikes in Hollywood, production can’t begin on a sequel season. Co-showrunners Matt Owens and Steven Maeda were also unable to promote their show fully due to the strike rules. It’ll be interesting if Netflix also allowed a second season to be written for Avatar: The Last Airbender prior to the writer’s strike in May.
