Last week, director Todd Phillips and Joaquin Phoniex announced they would be returning for Joker: Folie à Deux. The title of the film translated to “shared madness,” which led fans to believe Harley Quinn (originally played by Margot Robbie) could be added to the sequel. Rumors began springing up that the studio was looking at A Star is Born and House of Gucci star Lady Gaga for the role. Another name rumored is Phoneix’s real-life partner Rooney Mara.
Today, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Gaga is indeed in talks to star as Harley Quinn in the film. No deal set yet for Gaga, though. They also dropped the news that the sequel is expected to be a musical compared to the original movie. Production is expected to begin sometime in 2023.
Joker 2 has no set release date.
