‘Mortal Kombat’ Sequel Moves Forward at New Line Cinema with Screenwriter Jeremy Slater

Today, Deadline announced that a Mortal Kombat sequel is in the works at New Line Cinema. The original film was released early last year in both theaters and on HBO Max due to the day-and-date model by Warner Brothers. The film was met with mixed reviews mostly due to the introduction of a new character not in the video games Cole (played by Lewis Tan). As well as actually never having the tournament in the original film. However, many fans had hoped for a sequel with the tease that Johnny Cage finally introduced.

The sequel will be written by The Umbrella Academy & Moon Knight showrunner Jeremy Slater. It’s unknown if director Simon McQuiod will return for the sequel. While the film had some mixed reviews the cast was the highlight if the film including Hiroyuki Sanada as Scorpion, Joe Talism as Sub-Zero, and Ludi Lin as Liu Kang. Fans have already begun fancasting Johnny Cage for the sequel including Chris Evans and Ryan Reynolds.
